Karine Faou's latest submission is a series of 3 minimal yet edgy illustrations of nature entitled 'Maldives'. Karine has been experimenting with different compositions and fresh new colour pallets, we are very pleased to have them on the site and we look forward to further additions in the new year.

We asked Tattoo Artist Dawnii a few questions to get an insight behind her work.

So, tell us a brief bit about yourself. Where you were born, grew up and where you are now.

My name is Dawnii, Im a tattoo artist from northfield in Birmingham, UK. I have being tattooing for five years and in april of this year I openened my own studio, Painted Lady Tattoo Parlour.
Aside from tattooing I love painting and drawing, love the cinema and Kevin Bacon movies, love Neil Diamond and love my bald cats!

How did you get into art?

Ive always loved drawing and painting ever since I was little and went on to study at art college. Ive always had artistic related jobs and love the fact I get to use my art every day.

What are the influences behind your Work?

Im mainly inspired by tattoo orientated design. I love traditional, old school , Mexicana and organic influences. I am also inspired by Neil diamond and Fleetwood Mac!

Which fellow artists do you admire?

I love Gustav Klimt and Alphonse Mucha. And am mostly influenced by tattoo artists Sabine Gaffron, Valerie Vargas and Amanda Toy.

Tell us about 1 of your pieces on the Canvas Lounge website, the inspiration, the colours, and is it your favourite piece on the site?

My favorite piece is True Love (top of page). It contains all the elements I enjoy in my art work such as the tattoo influence, traditional theme and the heavy use of black next to bold, bright colour.

What do you think of the Canvas Lounge?

It rocks!!!

And finally do you have any last comments?

I hope my answers are ok. I'm no good at writing, thats why I stick to colouring in!!!

Thanks Dawnii!

This week the Canvas Lounge received this photograph (enclosed). Sarina sent us a picture of herself and her boyfriend and requested that we create a Graffiti Portrait for her to have printed onto Canvas.
We used Black and Grey tones with flickers of white for highlights, and as you can see the results are great!
Why not send us your images, so that we can do the same for that unique Canvas Art gift!
